As the name suggests, Mi Africa is more than just a décor shop, it’s a décor experience. Founder and owner, Bulelwa Mvulana, saw the value in exploring a different side of Africa, which beautifully translates into the items Mi Africa stocks. Bulelwa explains that Africans are colourful people who are often understated. While she acknowledges that certain ideas about Africa have their place, she wanted to move away from notions of safari and earth tones and embrace the colourful, vibrant side of Africa.
Mi Africa’s motto is OWN IT. LOVE IT. LIVE IT. and Bulelwa has adopted it as her own. In a world where our possessions assimilate into our identity and act as a kind of shorthand for who we are, this motto comes as no surprise.
Mi Africa came to be part of the 8MS family when Bulelwa’s friend told her about the pods at 8 Morrison Street. She was hesitant at first but as soon as she entered the building she was blown away by the space and how it fitted in with her brand.
Going forward, Mi Africa will be undergoing a facelift seeing an increased variety in the homeware department. Bulelwa would also like to expand the showroom as Mi Africa’s client base increases.
African prints are a big trend at the moment so if you are after a contemporary African-inspired décor experience for the home, pop into the shop at 8MS and find African print home accessories for your living space and more.
